State's Attorney Candidates Spar Over Ads
There's also some reading to be done on my fledgling blog. Patricia Jessamy in her 15 years as the City's State's Attorney has faced real competition only once, in 2002 when former City Council Member Lisa Stancil challenged her. This year, she faces Gregg Bernstein, a former prosecutor and current defense attorney who in only two months has managed to raise 5 times as much money as the incumbent and has been on the airwaves for a little over a week now. The ads portray Jessamy as a politician who has not done her job, that of prosecuting criminals. Bernstein is married to the Mayor's 'crime czar' and is being supported by a number of prominent attorneys including Warren Brown and Steve Levin. But, as a Jewish man in Baltimore, he still faces an uphill battle to win office.
