Despite Scandal, Irish Cardinal Will Not Resign
Cardinal Sean Brady of Ireland states that he will not resign from his position in the Catholic church, despite recently uncovered proof that he withheld evidence regarding the country's most abusive priest in the 1970's, Brendan Smyth. Along with withholding his own information, he had two teenagers sign oaths of secrecy that they would not take any evidence to police. Brady has apologized for his failure to report to police during this investigation, and has stated that he will not resign from his position as archbishop of Armagh.
