Explosion of oil rig in Gulf of Mexico
There was an explosion of an off shore oil platform owned by Mariner Energy in the Gulf of Mexico. There was not any oil or gas being emitted from the platform at the time of the explosion. About a dozen workers fell into the Gulf, with only one being injured. The cause of the explosion is still unknown. This is important especially after the BP oil spill. It is inexcusable that these incidents occur, and the pollution and health risks they pose for people and animals are tremendous. There needs to be an increase of safety for oil companies.
