Car Thieves and Maple Leaves
It took six days for the hunt of a 17 year old car thief to come to an end in the "Sweetest Town on Earth." Known for it's widely celebrated Maple Syrup Festival, Meyersdale, Pennsylvania was under high alert when a local boy and his partner in crime escaped a nearby detention center and began stealing anything with wheels. The two racked up over a dozen thefts in the short time they were on the loose. The two boys split up and made their separate ways back to their home towns, the one boy was caught in Cambria County and the other was caught a few days later not by the Meyersdale Police Force or the neighboring State Police Units that included multiple squad cars, K-9 units, and a Police Helicopter, but by a local man who had just happened to know the suspects latest victim and had received a call that the latest stolen SUV was spotted and the man tailed him to the local bicycle trail on a dirt bike. Before the suspect could get very far, this take-charge man caught up with the suspect after the teen had ditched the stolen SUV. The man apprehended the felon, authorities were then alerted and the teen taken into custody. As for what the young man wished to achieve nobody can say for certain but, according to many of the locals the turmoil was not so sweet.
