FDA Cracks Down on Unproven Health Claims


The Federal Food and Drug Adminsitration sent out a letter to mouthwash makers Johnson & Johnson (Listerine Total Care Anticavity Mouthwash), CVS Corporation (CVS Complete Care Anticavity Mouthwash), and Walgreen Company (Walgreen Mouth Rinse Full Action) who falsely claim that their products are "effective in prevenitng gum disease." The FDA states such statements have not been proven. Therfore, these companies are falsely advertising their products to treat a medical condition and, thsi is illegal. The FDA director warned that these companies have 15 days to comply to the regulation or they will face legal consequences.
